Rising Above Low Self Esteem: 4 Tips To Saying NO

Self-esteem is core to who we are and how we perceive the world around us. Experts have highlighted the long-term effect of low self-esteem on our mental health and day-to-day lives.

When self-esteem is low, we tend to see ourselves and our life in a more negative and critical light. Feeling less able to take on the challenges that life throws at us.
Self esteem is built over time starting as early as age 3 in childhood. It determines your victim or conquering approach to life challenges.
Some people are more prone to negative thinking, while others set impossibly high standards, further reinforcing the negative cycle.

Yes, stress and difficult life events do play a part but ultimately the power of choice is ours. If you have low self-esteem or confidence, you may hide away from social situations, and avoiding challenging situations might make you feel safe. However this approach backfires because it reinforces your underlying doubts and fears, teaching you the unhelpful rule that the only way to cope is by avoiding things.

So how do you stop low self-esteem in its track?
Here are 4 tips that has helped several hundred people and I hope they help you too!

Tip 1. Recognise what your strength or skills are
How much time do you spend doing the things you’re good at – whether it’s cooking, singing, doing puzzles, or being a friend?. Find that skill or strength and focus on it, it is the ticket you have been waiting for.

Tip 2. Be kind to yourself
Think what you’d say to a friend going through the same thing. We often give far better advice to others than we do to ourselves. Being kind to yourself means being gentle to yourself at times when you feel like being self-critical, relaxing, and a take a deep breath, calling your name and saying amazing things to yourself, buying that nice dress for yourself, and making yourself happy, little self-kindness can boost your morals.
