Focus On What You Can Control- Run Your Race!
It is only natural to look to peers, mentors, and role models for inspiration and guidance – but don’t attach your self-worth or measure of progress to what they’re doing or achieving in their own life.
For some, success in their businesses means creating a multi-million dollar enterprise. For others, it means being able to replace their full-time income and never having to work for someone else again and for a few, it is simply about having flexible work hours so they can spend the time with loved ones, travelling or whatever else they desire.
Whatever your motivation or reason is, you need to focus squarely on your race. Be intentional about it and call it a NAME, this helps you address that dream and focus better.
In this day of information overload and era of social media over-share, It can be really difficult to keep your focus and easy to fall into the comparison trap. There are ways around this and below I share three easy tips to keep your Focus and achieve your dreams.
- Take social media bragging with a grain of salt
In reality, no one’s life is that perfect. Why then do we fall for the illusion of perfection displayed on social media?
People use social media to display their highlights and moments of happiness (most of which are staged), you then go comparing your real life (what I call your backstage) to a stage performance. Remember, real life can’t be accurately portrayed in a single photo.
It is also important to acknowledge the seeds they had to sow to get there, or conversely, you may not realize how little they had to do to get there.
- Decide what success means to you and what the first step is, in that direction.
Whether it is making a new business plan, setting new growth ideas, or landing an exciting contract, focus on making it happen. Consider this: what types of accomplishments feel important to you and your success then simply go for it. Do not procrastinate. There is no reason to wait. Waiting is equal to assassination. Still overwhelmed and not sure where / how to start, then get in touch with me here. I would love to help! - Become an Opportunist
But you’ll have to do more than the minimum to stand out. Be on the chase for opportunities. Once you are in this state of mind, opportunities will be all that you will see. Particularly when others see problems. Stay ready (with your preparation) so you can grab the opportunity with both hands. Once these opportunities come up, start saying yes whenever you can.
If you are asked to speak at a campus ceremony, go for it. If a friend invites you to a networking event, join her. If you stumble across a chance to participate in exciting research, apply for it. If you keep your eyes open, you’ll be surprised how often these sorts of opportunities present themselves.
